Giving Birth to the Sacred Within

This reflection was inspired by Maureen Catabian, one of our head facilitators at the Integral Mastery Academy. She is a nun and a Religious of the Good Shepherd in the Philippines, with 34 years of vowed life and seven years of missionary service in Burkina Faso and Senegal. Last week, she facilitated an online Advent Reflection and Centring Prayer session that offered a quietly penetrating insight into the symbolic depth of the Christian story.

Rather than approaching Mary and Jesus solely as historical figures, she spoke to their interior meaning, the way these symbols live within the human psyche and soul. Her reflection pointed toward a radical possibility: each of us is capable of symbolically giving birth to Christ.

This is not a biological claim, nor a mythic abstraction. It points toward embodiment. To bring forth Christ means to allow our highest qualities: love, compassion, humility, courage, truth—to move from potential into expression. Christianity, at its core, is not belief alone but participation. The aim is not to admire Christ from afar, but to become more Christlike.

Mary, understood symbolically, represents a state of interior openness. Virginity here does not refer to sexuality, but to non-attachment. Untouched by compulsive grasping. Uncolonized by fear, status, or possession. Present in the world, yet not shaped by its distortions. Such a state allows something sacred to be born through us rather than merely spoken about.

Seen this way, Christ Consciousness is not exclusive to one tradition. Buddhism speaks of Buddha Nature, the innate capacity for awakening and compassion. Vedanta speaks of realization, whether framed through non-duality or devotion. Language shifts, symbols vary, yet the movement is the same: the flowering of what is most whole within us.

Love your neighbour as yourself.

This teaching becomes transformative once the meaning of “neighbour” expands. Love matures as perspective matures. Identity widens from ethnocentric to worldcentric and finally to kosmocentric. Care stretches outward until it includes not only those who resemble us, but all beings, all life, all existence.

Christ Consciousness dissolves the narrowness of “us and them.” What begins as personal devotion ripens into a universal ethic: care rooted not in obligation, but in recognition. The other is no longer other.

Spiritual maturity does not ask us to escape the world. It asks us to meet it without being possessed by it. To act, serve, speak, and love from a place no longer ruled by fear or fragmentation.

Each moment offers the same question Mary symbolically answered:
Will something greater than habit be allowed to move through you?

This is not a miracle reserved for saints. It is the quiet work of becoming transparent to love.

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas to you all.

In the Divine Embrace

A Journey Within and Beyond

In the vast, boundless expanse of existence, there lies a profound truth that whispers in the silent spaces of our being. It is a truth that transcends the confines of language and thought, yet is intimately known to each of us: the realization that we are intricately woven into the fabric of the divine.

As seekers on this spiritual odyssey, we commence our quest from the source of all creation, a point of infinite potential that we reverently name God. This origin is not a distant deity, but the very essence of our existence, the core of our being. It is from this sacred wellspring that our journey unfolds.

Our path is one of walking through God, a phrase that captures the essence of our existence as a continuous immersion in the divine presence. Every step we take, every breath we draw, is imbued with the essence of this ultimate reality. In this journey, the mundane becomes sacred, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary, as we perceive the divine in all.

As we traverse this path, a remarkable transformation occurs: we walk towards God, not as a destination, but as an ever-deepening understanding of our true nature. With each step, the illusion of separation dissolves, revealing the oneness that binds all existence. Our journey towards God is thus a journey towards the self, a pilgrimage to the heart of our spiritual essence.

In this profound realization, we come to walk as God. This is not a claim of divine identity in the egoistic sense, but a recognition of our inherent divinity. To walk as God is to embody the qualities of compassion, love, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of the divine. It is to live in a state of nonduality, where the self and the other, the creator and the creation, are seen as one.

This journey is not a linear path but a spiral, where each cycle brings us closer to the core of our spiritual being. It is a journey without distance, for the divine is not a place to reach but a reality to realize. In this realization, we find that we have never been separate from God, for in God we live, move, and have our being.

In conclusion, our spiritual odyssey is a dance with the divine, a journey that takes us from God, through God, towards God, and ultimately reveals that we walk as God. It is a journey of awakening to the truth within us, a call to explore the depths of our divine nature.

The Dawn of Inner Illumination

Embracing the Light Within

In the depths of our being, there lies a profound revelation, akin to the experience of witnessing the first rays of dawn after a long night. This awakening is not just a mere encounter with light; it is the realization that you are that very light, cradled in the embrace of darkness, which is also an integral part of your essence.

Imagine living in a realm of perpetual twilight, where the distinction between light and darkness blurs, creating a harmonious coexistence. This is the realm of our inner world, where we discover that light and darkness are not adversaries but complementary forces. In the heart of this realization, we find that our true nature transcends these dualities.

The journey towards this awakening begins with a simple, yet profound question: Who am I? This inquiry, deeply rooted in the wisdom of Eastern philosophy, is not a quest for a label or a definition. Instead, it is an exploration of the essence of being. As we delve deeper, we peel away the layers of conditioned thoughts and societal constructs, arriving at the core of our existence.

In this core, we discover that we are the silent observers, the light of consciousness, witnessing the dance of life. This light does not falter; it remains constant, illuminating our experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Yet, it is untouched by them, just as the sun is untouched by the activities it lights up.

This realization brings a profound sense of freedom. We are no longer bound by our limitations of ourselves. We are the vastness that encompasses all things, the eternal light shining in the heart of darkness. This is the essence of absolute monism – the understanding that all is one and that one is all.

But this awakening is not the end. It is the beginning of a new journey. A journey of living in the light of this truth, of embodying this understanding in every aspect of our lives. It is about finding the balance between being and becoming, between stillness and movement, and between the light and the darkness within.

As we embrace this light within, we become beacons for others on their paths. We inspire, guide, and uplift, not by words alone, but by the very essence of our being. Our lives become a testament to the truth that in the heart of darkness lies the most radiant light.
